I thought it would be interesting to analyze my purchases from Spinney's to give you an idea what things cost at a local grocer in Abu Dhabi. Amounts are in Dirham (DH), with the $U.S. conversion at the bottom of this post.
Jasmine Rice Vinegar: 3.25
Lime seedless (2): 0.95
Athenos Feta Cheese: 15.00
Chef Knife (UK): 29.25
Powerstrip 3 socket: 45.75
Arabian Nut Mix (very good): 20.50
Twinings Green Tea: 9.75
Whole Chicken: 14.50
Magazine (TimeOut Abu Dhabi): 10.00
Metal Oven Tray (UK): 30.00

TOTAL: $178.95 DH (which equals around $48.73 US)
We really needed another powerstrip for our computers and hand held games. Had to buy a chef knife because the set in the apartment does not hold an edge, and mangles everything I try to cut. The oven tray was needed because we did not have one here - and I figured out how to use the oven in the Bompani Italian range.
